How this works.

Final ABV is just the weighted average of each ingredient’s alcohol content, divided by total finished volume. The math is simple; the part people skip is including the water.

A Manhattan with 60 ml of bonded rye and 30 ml of vermouth looks like a 38% drink on paper. After 20 seconds of stirring, you’re closer to 30%. The ice melt is doing more than seasoning — it’s a full third of the finished liquid.
